Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are generally considered a single-coated breed. Their long, silky coats lack a thick undercoat, which requires less maintenance than other long-hair, double-coated breeds. However, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels still need frequent brushing to prevent matting and tangling, and they are mild shedders without a “blowing coat” season.
